CHS February Newsletter
Message from the President
It is the time of year when I become over-committed in my community activities. Other than the Havurah, I also have a volunteer role within the AARP Tax Aide program. I have been heavily involved in setting up the free tax preparation centers the AARP operates in Williamson County. This year we are opening one in Sun City at the Cowan Creek Amenities Center. If you want your Federal income taxes prepared for free, come on in.

Anyway, the Havurah has not been far from my mind and I do need to congratulate the Social Committee for a great games night, the Program Committee for the Dr. Saenger event and all of you who have stepped up to participate in the committees. Things have gotten off to a great start. The January services were well attended and I want to thank the Board of the Kadima Chapter of Hadassah for leading services last Friday.

Finally, I apologize to the hard working Communications Committee for the late submittal of this message.

B'shalom everyone!
From the Editor
Another month has slipped by. We have had a great deal of activity during the first month of 2012 and it looks like it will become another year to remember. A terrific Game Night and Barbecue dinner took place mid -January and all of our Committees are in full swing. We are looking forward to a great year for CHS.

Please continue to visit/use our website and enjoy our once weekly announcements and monthly newsletter.

Travel News and Views:
The Best of Kenya and Tanzania
We embarked on a 20-day Overseas Adventure Tours trip to Kenya and Tanzania and returned in mid- December. We started and ended in Nairobi and toured several game parks while being driven in mini buses and pop top Toyota Land Cruisers.

In addition to seeing an amazing array of birds and animals, both solitary and in groups, the scenery and our various adventures in markets and lodges constantly thrilled us. We witnessed a part of the wildebeest migration, "parades" of elephants, "dazzles " of zebras, and "towers" of giraffes to name a few.

Our group of just 13 was amazingly congenial, the lodges and "tents" we stayed in were five stars -- complete with luxurious bathrooms, king size beds with fine linens, and spacious sitting porches. Our meals were either buffet, self-prepared box lunches or graciously served and we took full advantage of the amenities such as the swimming pools and massages. A constant expression was "how do they get all this stuff out here in the middle of nowhere and how does OAT deliver such quality for so little money"? As is the OAT custom, we participated in a "Learning and Discovery" activity where we purchased fruits and vegetables to take to a native host family. This included a live chicken, which was only destined to live its life roaming free and laying eggs. Meeting and talking with a Massai chief and some of the warriors in their village was just another highlight of an incredible time in East Africa. At no time did we feel unsafe or unwelcome.

Anyone who has taken an OAT trip can relate to the professionalism of the tour guides, drivers and daily program. We had knowledgeable guides and drivers who helped us gain a deeper appreciation of the animal world and the political state of the two countries.

We would be more than happy to share our experiences with anyone contemplating such a trip or wanting more information on the advantages of travelling with OAT.

The Green's Road Trip
On November 14th, Glory and I took Buddy and Mazie and off we went to Sedona for 3 nights. Grand golf and great food in a very beautiful surrounding.

Then off to Las Vegas (more golf) to see the changes from when we had lived there for a year in 1990. So many new buildings and communities where before was just dirt. We discovered that the older casinos were somewhat boring compared to, for example, Palazzo and the Venetian.

We had one very special evening of dining at Del Monicos - - Emeril's restaurant - - and then saw "Jersey Boys" in a relatively small theater and had fabulous seats very close to the stage.

We walked for miles and Glory said she wasn't tired, but I knew she was - - so typical of that wonderful woman. After we got home we both realized that she was not well. Thank G-d for the opportunity that we had to share such a wonderful trip.

Marty Green
We want to thank Audrey Brookner, Arleen Harr, Burt Anes, Mike Kessler, Rod Locke and Denis Marshall for contributing photos to the newsletter.
