                                 Our Mission

Congregation Havurah Shalom is dedicated to serving the spiritual, educational, cultural, civic and social needs of its members in an egalitarian environment framed by Jewish tradition and in an atmosphere of joy and mutual caring.

                                 Who We Are

Congregation Havurah Shalom serves the Sun City Texas community and its environs. Most of our approximately 300 members are active adults living in or near the community, which is located in Georgetown, Texas. Though unaffiliated, our ritual practices are closely aligned with those of the modern Reform Jewish Movement.

Services are held on the first and third Friday of every month throughout the year. We also hold services on the High Holy Days. Our worship services are led mainly by lay members of Havurah Shalom with an occasional visiting rabbi. Services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat hosted by alternating members of CHS. We do not employ a professional Rabbi or Cantor, and we do not support a religious school or cemetery.

There are four major components to our congregation:

  1.  Religious: Havurah Shalom provides members with a place to worship with services, rituals, and religious events;
  2. Education: We offer members and the community at large a variety of educational  programs;
  3. Social events; and
  4. Tikkun Olam: Community outreach and support for the Greater Georgetown, Texas area.
